Easter Traditions

Worth More Than Gold
I still have hopes of having big traditions for every Holiday, but for now I have to be content with baby steps.  Two Easter traditions we enjoy each year is the reading of a special book and an different kind of Egg Hunt.

The book I read to the boys each year is called "Worth More than Gold" (previously labeled "Legend of the Easter Egg").   It's an old book (as is my preference) and I know not if it is true but it is sweet story about a possible reason for the tradition of Easter Eggs.  I realize there is a darker theory but this one is more child friendly and adds a decidedly Christian twist to the seemingly secular tradition.

We finish up the reading of the book on Saturday and follow it with our own Easter Egg hunt in the back yard.  I fill the eggs with erasers and a couplet from the book.  The boys get $0.25 for each couplet they memorize by the following Sunday (this year only Lance tried to memorize them).  We do the hunt in stages, one person at a time.  Each kid gets four eggs to find and each egg is hidden with care by the rest of the family.  Even the girl joined in this year, everyone had a great time!
On Sunday, Chris read the story of the resurrection from the Bible to the boys.  Some day, I hope to rent out a place on the beach and get back to Easter Morning Sunrise worship.  However, the kids will first have to be old enough that waking them early in the morning won't ruin their attitudes for the rest of the day! LOL
